Shooting Yvette Fielding – Portraits for The Daily Telegraph

Some shoots feel like stepping straight into the story you’re there to capture. My recent portrait session with Yvette Fielding, photographed for The Daily Telegraph inside her famously haunted home, was one of those moments.

A Bit of Background

Yvette Fielding is best known as the presenter of Most Haunted, a show that redefined paranormal television in the UK. She’s spent years exploring the supernatural, and her own home has long been linked with ghostly tales. Photographing Yvette here wasn’t just about taking her portrait — it was about reflecting the eccentric, energetic personality of a woman who has built her career on the unseen.

For me, shoots like this highlight the craft of celebrity portrait photography for editorial features. The goal isn’t just to make a striking image — it’s to tell a story that resonates with readers, while giving editors the kind of visuals that command attention on the page.

The Setting

We shot inside Yvette’s home, surrounded by a backdrop of dark beams, mounted antlers, and atmospheric interiors. The environment itself was loaded with character, and I wanted the portraits to echo that sense of eccentricity and theatricality. Her playful, expressive personality did the rest — leaning straight into the storytelling side of the shoot.

This is where TV presenter portraits really come alive: when personality, setting, and style collide.

The Lighting

I used a two-light setup to balance drama and clarity. A gridded Octa served as the key light, giving me directional control and sculpted highlights that worked perfectly against the dark interior. To soften the shadows and keep the details alive, I added a fill light, ensuring the final portraits had depth without losing energy.

This approach is at the core of editorial portraits for newspapers and magazines — delivering images that carry atmosphere while still meeting the technical demands of print publication.

The Result

The final portraits are full of character: bold, expressive, and unmistakably Yvette. They carry the theatricality of her television persona, while also feeling rooted in the haunted setting of her own home. For an editorial commission, they delivered exactly what was needed — imagery that stands out on the page while still telling the subject’s story.

If you’re looking for a portrait photographer in London, Manchester, or Leeds for your editorial, celebrity, or commercial photography, I’d love to discuss how we can create impactful images together. Whether it’s a magazine feature, a campaign shoot, or portraits of TV personalities, my approach is always about delivering images with presence, personality, and impact.
