Photographing Michael Palin

I recently had the chance to photograph Sir Michael Palin, and honestly, it was exactly what you’d hope for.

Portrait of Sir Michael Palin

Like most people, I grew up watching him in Monty Python’s Flying Circus — proper classic British comedy — and then later through his travel work like Around the World in 80 Days with Michael Palin. He’s one of those rare people who’s managed to reinvent himself without ever losing what makes him likeable.

From a photographer’s point of view, he’s a gift. Totally relaxed, no ego, and very easy to work with. There’s a natural warmth to him that just comes through in photos without having to force anything.

And yes — for anyone wondering — he really is as nice and as charming as he seems on screen.
